IA Headquarters relocate to Bolton
For
many years, International Aestheticiennes, was located in Chesters Bache
Hall, which became a temporary home to students and educators from all over
the world, many of whom travelled thousands of miles to learn the secrets of
Lillian Maund beauty therapy.
Chester Colleges current expansion plans provided an opportunity to sell the Georgian mansion, and locate the centre in more modern, flexible premises. A long search led to Park Road in Bolton, where Westgate House has become the new home to the Lillian Maund Beauty Salons, Beauty Training Centre and International Aestheticiennes. The building, which sits alongside Queens Park, was chosen for its ideal location, superb training and residential accommodation, as Mrs. Maund explained.
We were relieved when Chester College asked to buy our former premises, as we were finding the historic building was limiting our expansion plans. Our students travel to study from all over the world as well as from every corner of the UK. They demand many things in addition to the very finest training, including equally good accommodation and a pleasant place to spend their period of study. Westgate House came up trumps in all of these areas, and of course Bolton itself provides many wonderful facilities to our British and Overseas students. Queens Parks 20 hectares of gardens are next door and the centre is only a short walk from the lively town centre. If our students social horizons lie further afield, we enjoy quick connections by road and rail to Manchester.
We
were also keen to choose well-located premises, which were easy to find, and
had plentiful parking both for students and the salons clients,
she continued. The Chester salon drew clients from the whole of Cheshire,
North Wales, Wirral, Liverpool and Manchester, and many have followed us to
Bolton, some have told us that the motorway connections make our new location
even more convenient.
Whilst the salon operation is of most interest to Boltonians and Mancunians the Lillian Maund Training Centre has been established for more than 30 years, and has achieved a world-wide reputation for producing highly skilled therapists though its unique approach to training. Each intake of students usually includes some who have travelled great distances to experience Lillian Maund training. Californian Susanna Lin, is amongst the current intake and typifies the modern Lillian Maund student.
After studying here, I would like to work for a year of so, then travel to Japan, to get to know how they approach beauty training, to get the Asian aspect of being a beautician, she says. Susanna graduated from High School a year in advance of her classmates, and used the time to travel to Taiwan, where she spent ten months learning to read and write Chinese. She plans to use her travel to expand her horizons before eventually establishing her own salon.
Many students find Lillian Maund training is a passport to a more exotic life, some are fortunate to travel as part of their training, and many former students gained their first taste of travel accompanying Mrs. Maund on professional engagements to America, India or the Far and Middle East. A larger number have found jobs abroad, either teaching in beauty schools or working in salons, or on cruise ships, which is an expanding area of the beauty business.
Courses at Westgate House place a great emphasis on practical skills, preparing graduates for employment. Workplace training is a key element, with all students undertaking client-based training. Classes in the modern practical and theory tutorial rooms have a small tutor-student ratio and enjoy a wide range of teaching resources, with an extensive video library.
Many students study on a residential basis, enjoying a high standard of accommodation and the centre offers guardianship accommodation for younger students.
